Remembering an Old Fav Dining Spot Hula Grill August 2026
I asked a family member to review our experience! Hula Grill was extremely crowded with people, with tables packed into every nook and cranny. Waiter didn’t seem too concerned with providing a lasting experience, despite prices suggesting maybe he should. View was spectacular, food was good, drinks not so much. They really seem to be favoring quantity over quality these days. The Hula Grill that I remember as a kid had atmosphere, character, and wasn’t concerned with turning

New Find! DeVine Wine Lounge - July 2026
We were told it was a great spot! Score! It was! A wine and sprits bar with couches around small tables for a relaxing way to sip and chat with your friends. They have a sense of humor as well.... DeVine is located in the Azeca Shopping Center , Makai side (means toward the ocean) next to Maui Pie. It looks like a simple store front outside but inside is a cozy oasis from the busy S. Kihei Road. The menu has a nice selection of wines and spirits, plus food like simple sala

High Surf, Swaying Palms and Food!
I participated in the Whales Tales event to show my art in Kapalua, and it was a nice event, some new sales and met some fine people. We opted to stay two nights since this was a two day show for me. We stayed in Napili Bay condos called The Mauian. The view on the bay was fabulous, the condo room was boxy, basic cement block, and quite dated, but it was the best deal we could find given the current hotel prices. The surf was high! We had the surf hitting the shore sounds

Here and Gone - Maui Dining and drinking
I'm going to start with the bad news. But it gets better! COVID and Lahaina Fire: the one-two punch for Maui. Some establishments went up in smoke and some just had to close. Staffing shortages, building locations lost, etc. Here is a quick run down of popular places I've talked about in the past - Cuatro - in Kihei - gone. Rumor is they will reopen someplace else....unk. Cool Cats Lahaina - coming to Kihei, near the movie theaters. April is the word... Ditto for Cheeseburge

Gather on Maui - New Dining!
A new group bought Gannon's and Hali'imaile General Store. (Bev Gannon's children as she called them) and Gannon's was a classic spot on the golf course in Wailea; we were frequent diners. We did not know what to expect with this new operation. Name not changed yet, remodeling complete...the buzz was in the air- we went with son Justin to try it out for the first time. New bar - no more RED Bar! Nice! and the food was different and tasty. They are making a huge effort to ma

What? No Dessert?
It started with a evening of pupus ( Hawaiian word for appetizers) on the deck at a neighbor's house.

Diane's Story by "Chief Roadie" & Husband John
Several of Diane's collectors have asked me to tell them more about the story of this artist whom I love and from where the spirit of her paintings has emerged. I hope I can begin to tell Diane's story with a few pictures which reflect her heart. First off, she loves the beauty of nature in all of its forms .... ... and has lived her entire life with fond pets by her side. Here on Maui those pets include rescue cats Boomer & Lili and a half-dozen garden Geckos (Gracie below

Old School and New School Cocktails!
Let me first say I almost don't want to tell you about this place. But wait... I did under my secret dining spots.... but I did not really elaborate on the details as to why... so shhh... just for my close personal friends that you are..... Ok, now the second thing I want you to know is this is a revew after a "few" trips, not just one...otherwise I'd be stumbling over to an Uber.... You are greeted by the orchid wall in the portico and then on the massive and amazingly creat

Two of My Favorite Words - Maui & Chocolate
Did you know Maui grows cacao? I did not! Did you know you can go to a tasting room at the cacao farm and sample the chocolate - just like sipping fine wine? What a concept! I'm in! Ku'ia Estate Chocolate is in Lahaina, next door to Star Noodle if you are familiar with that other icon. But- thank you to proper social distancing, we can't go..... We have been enjoying Maui in different ways lately. So get a load of this - a virtual chocolate tasting session by the owner of
