Bora Bora!

Yes, the water is really that blue. Maybe even bluer than my photo. John has a long arm and grabbed this selfie! Our overwater bungalow is behind us. Le Moana Intercontinental Hotel, on the main island of Bora Bora.

The color is even that blue on a cloudy day! This next scene showed a rain squall that was heading our way really slowly, and ultimately created a balmy rain shower, typically for an hour or so, each day, then sunshine again.

We watched this outrigger canoe race from our lunch table at the Bora Bora Beach Club. The "Club" does not impress you by its looks from outside,

but it's right on the beach and has the best food around! Dinner one evening was set on a table, in the sand, steps away from the lapping waves...best meal of the trip. (Beef Filet Steak with creamy Morel Mushroom sauce.) Here was the classic drink of the trip - Martini with a tropical sweet pea flower and the view we enjoyed while we dined.

We enjoyed dining at the Bora Bora Yacht club and also St. James, in addition to the resort. Local taxis are available on the main island and it is a quick 20 min. drive to the Yacht Club.
The overwater bungalow view was a delight and I started a couple paintings sitting in this very spot. The water off the deck was about chest high and we did not have to go snorkeling more that 5 feet to a small reef to see the colorful fish, and they provide a glass top coffee table you can look down through to see the fish going by.

We visited an art gallery, and asked if I could display my work. The paintings on display reminded me of a Maui scene and I felt right at home. I'd love to be in another gallery --and restock it in person!
Traveling from Maui took part of two days: two flights, then an overnight on Tahiti, then a flight to Bora Bora, and then a boat to the hotel. The airport is on the northernmost island and no roads take you there, boat only. It was an adventure!
My take away? It was on my bucket list as a place to visit and stay in one of these bungalows- it's so relaxing at night with the quiet and the gentle waves, but no rocking like a boat. We loved it. The water temperature was fabulous. Would I go again? Maybe. Compared to Maui, it is REALLY expensive. Yes. Maui is a better deal. Maybe we can talk a Maui resort into overwater bungalows and a shallow coral rimmed lagoon....but not this century I bet. If you plan to go, send me a note, I'll share some more details.
I'm happy to be back in the studio and on Maui. I hope you have a chance to go to a place on YOUR bucket list.
