Painting this beach -one of my favorite spots on Maui- was always a challenge because its such a small cove. Its hard to step back  and grab the whole scene.  This time I stretched a large canvas and decided to do it all- from the sentinel palm on the left that shelters the fishermen, to the tide pools and ascending stairs on the right.  The waves crash through the main opening on the left and swirl into the beach. When the surf is high the locals jump off the rock timing their landing when the wave crests.  There were a few of them out there this day playing in the surf.  Original oil in 12 x 36 is sold.
