The evening of Leap Year day 2020 gave us this fantastic sunset full of swirls and swishes and big bulbous clouds- all mixed together.  I tried to make some sense of it and refine the scene giving you the essence of the sunset.  The light on the West Maui Mountains showed the topography of the mountainside with deep gulches, the lighthouse at the base was starting to flash, and the ocean was calm with just a few waves rolling in quietly.
I posted a few sunset photos in one of my newsletters and asked my followers to vote on which one I should paint- this one won!
The painting is thick with paint where there are thick clouds, and dry brush helps the clouds stay whispy.
