This was a studio painting that followed a watercolor sketch.  I was poised on a rocky outcropping looking back into the cove where the wave was crashing.  The rain started to come in and it was impossible to finish and the watercolor sketch was being ruined.  But I got far enough along to grab the scene. I caught this with my camera as well so I had the material to work from.  I wanted to convey the noise and power of the wave.
